Overview

Mineyama Highland is a highland resort at about 930m elevation in Kaminaka Town, Kanzaki County, Hyogo. Winter operations include ski runs; green season offers camping and hotel resort stays. Leveraging low light pollution conditions, stargazing is popular—earning the title "natural planetarium."

Observation environment

Positioned in Harima mountains, Mineyama Highland shields Himeji and Kobe city light with intervening ranges. At about 930m elevation, Bortle Scale Class 3 darkness is ensured.

The campground's thoughtfully designed minimal lighting allows the Milky Way to emerge at night. Osaka and Kobe accessibility (about 2 hours) combined with comprehensive accommodations represents major strengths.

Facilities and usage guide

"Hotel Relaxia" is the highland's core facility featuring restaurant, public bath, and rooms. Stepping outside the hotel immediately reveals starry sky. "Hoshi Furu Highland Campground" offers tent sites and glamping, making star-filled camping popular.

Summer hosts stargazing events; guided observation sessions are sometimes available.

Access

About 30 minutes by car from Kanzaki South IC on the Banshin Connection Road. Mountain terrain with adequate roadway makes driving accessible. About 2 hours from Osaka direction, about 1.5 hours from Kobe direction.

Stargazing tips

Campground guests enjoy stargazing from their own sites by lying down—the most comfortable approach. Highland areas cool even in summer; thin fleece preparation is advisable. Wintertime ski slopes open in other seasons; the broad grass area offers 360-degree starry sky views.
