Mineyama Highland — Hyogo's Resort Plateau for Starry Nights Above 930 Meters
Overview
Mineyama Highland, at about 930 meters in Kamikawa, Kanzaki County, Hyogo, is a year-round resort. Winter operates as a ski area; green seasons feature camping and hotel stays. Taking advantage of low-light highland location, stargazing is popular—called "natural planetarium."
Observation Environment
Mineyama is situated in the Harima hills, with the Himeji and Kobe lights blocked by surrounding peaks. At 930 meters, Bortle Class 3 darkness is achieved. Especially the campground, designed with modest lighting, reveals the Milky Way overhead at night. With Osaka-Kobe access of about 2 hours and robust lodging, high-altitude stargazing meets urban convenience.
Facilities and Information
"Hotel Relaxia" anchors the resort with restaurant, large bath, and rooms. Steps outside, stars appear. "Hoshifuru Highland Campground" features tent sites and glamping, blending camping with stargazing—increasingly popular. Summer events sometimes include guided star-observation activities.
Access
About 30 minutes from Haritan Expressway's Kanzaki-Minami IC. Mountain roads are well-paved. From Osaka: about 2 hours; from Kobe: about 1.5 hours.
Stargazing Tips
The most comfortable viewing? Lie back on your campsite mat watching stars overhead. Highland summer nights cool quickly; thin fleece is insurance. The ski slopes open to non-winter visitors—broad grass offers 360-degree star views.
