Overview

Mineyama Highland is a highland resort spread across approximately 930 meters elevation in Kamikawa Town, Kanzaki District, Hyogo Prefecture. Operating as a ski area in winter, green season offerings include camping and hotel resort stays. Popular for stargazing utilizing the highland's minimal light pollution, it's called a natural planetarium.

Observation Environment

Mineyama Highland is located in mountains of the Harima region, with light pollution from Himeji city and Kobe direction blocked by mountain ranges. At 930-meter elevation, Bortle scale class 3 darkness is maintained.

The camping area particularly features design with modest surrounding lighting, revealing the Milky Way overhead at night. Major advantages include convenient access approximately 2 hours from Osaka and Kobe, plus comprehensive accommodation facilities.

Facilities and Usage Information

"Hotel Relax Sia" is the central facility with restaurant, large bath, and guest rooms. Steps outside the hotel reveal a starry sky. "Star-Falling Highland Campground" offers tent sites and glamping facilities, with popular stargazing camping experiences.

Summer may feature stargazing observation events with guide-led observation sessions.

Access

About 30 minutes by car from Kanzaki South IC on the Bantan Connection Road. Though mountain road, road width is sufficient and driving is manageable. About 2 hours from Osaka direction, about 1.5 hours from Kobe direction.

Observation Tips

Camping guests find lying back from their own site enjoying the starry sky most comfortable. Highlands cool even summer nights, making light fleece advisable. Ski area slopes open outside winter, offering 360-degree starry sky views from broad grassland.
